Let Sleep Come Over You

In most industrialized countries, sleep is increasingly becoming a problem to many people. As a result, many become addicted to sleeping medication.

Falling asleep is a question of letting oneself go. The crucial ‘act’ is certainly not a conscious decision, but a spontaneous happening. The more that conscious will power is put into the scales, the less easily the individual can fall asleep. Good sleepers are those who are confident in their ability for good sleep. They communicate this confidence to their deeper self. For an insomniac on the contrary, every night of bad sleep is a confirmation that there is a huge problem, strengthening the belief that next time sleep will not come easily either.

A sleep ritual is a kind of autosuggestion towards falling asleep that people spontaneously use. It can be very powerful to some. It can be made more powerful to many. Others need other kinds of autosuggestion, such as an efficient use of metaphors and visualization.

Stress and worries are the most frequent cause of bad sleep. Lack of sleep on the other hand diminishes the level of stress resistance. One can use autosuggestion to work on both problems at the same time and to efficiently break the self-enhancing pattern stress -> sleeplessness -> stress.
